Season’s Greetings from Restoration Advocates!
As the year comes to a close, we’re filled with gratitude as we reflect on the resilience of those we serve and the compassion of the community that supports them. Thanks to your generosity, 2024 has been a year of hope, healing, and new beginnings for women and children who are courageously rebuilding their lives after domestic violence. Allow me to share the journey of one family, with name changed for confidentiality.
Kathy arrived at the shelter at the end of August. Her husband had been incarcerated for domestic violence, and she and her two children were facing eviction because she couldn't afford the rent. Fortunately, we had a room available, and Kathy and her two young children were able to move in.
As the school year was beginning, Kathy was eager to enroll her kids. I took her to the local school, and after meeting the principal and submitting records, they started the next day. The kids quickly loved it—on the second day, her son called it "the best day ever." The kids quickly got involved in school activities and made new friends. The support and acceptance Kathy and her children have found at school have made their transition much smoother.
Kathy started looking for a job, but transportation was a challenge. Her own car wasn’t running, so she used the vehicle we provide for residents. Eventually, another organization repaired her car, and we covered her insurance and gas costs to help her regain mobility. Kathy shared that having her car back gave her a sense of independence and hope that a job opportunity was on the horizon. She has since secured employment and has graciously helped other residents with transportation. Kathy’s confidence has blossomed, and her optimism is contagious. I am confident she will excel in her new job and soon be able to fully support her family. Kathy and her children have a bright future because of the support you have provided.
They are not the only family you have helped. You can find more stories at www.restorationadvocates.org/testimonials
This year, you’ve provided shelter for 103 women and children, helped thirteen families transition into homes of their own, enabled eight children to attend school, and supplied vehicles for three women—along with one for Restoration Advocates which we keep for our residents to use.
But our work is far from over. As 2025 approaches, we anticipate an even greater need for support in our community. Your year-end gift can make a direct impact—allowing us to continue offering shelter, mentoring, transportation, childcare, and other vital resources to families seeking a fresh start.
Please consider making a donation to Restoration Advocates as we move into the new year. Every dollar you contribute helps provide the safety, stability, and support that so many domestic abuse survivors in our community depend on.
